Price Controls –> Food Shortages. It Doesn’t Just Work for Hugo Chavez June 10, 2008

I’m violating a self-imposed rule of this blog to keep politics out.

But I couldn’t resist after back-to-back readings of news clippings on meat shortages in Venezuela and milk shortages in Germany.

It’s actually less politics and more economics.

I do wonder if there are Chavista counterparts in Germany, do they blame the US / CIA for the shortages or quickly spin out a report on state-owned media attributing the shortages are due to Germans’ suddenly consuming more milk due to their increased “acquisitive power”? (As Minister Elias Juas has done on VTV.)

That last bit was not quite economics.

its really quite alarming to find out that germany experiences milk shortages. yes i know its not like switzerland or netherlands where they have millions of cows but it is not a place you would expect to run out of milk sources

Great site! It’s made me want to visit again soon.

Re: the milk shortage. I think food shortages are going to be with us (in unexpected places) for the next couple of years due changing patterns of consumption.
